Craftsmanship

Autocad, Craftsmanship

Introduction

What can wood do?

This Project was made for the final assessment of my carpentry education before studying industrial design. The motivation for this piece was to push the possibilities of wood as a material.

The wood type used was ash due to its flexibility and stability. The guiding track is made of aluminum and the runners surfaced with HPL.

The assessment procedure was the following:

  • Finish technical drawings, choose materials
  • Construct and finish the piece within a month

The design/usability requirements were:

  • Enable the user to change settings
  • Include many degrees of freedom
  • Make system reliable and ensure safety
  • Can be mounted at the wall or be used freestanding

Technical Drawings

During school time and after work the technical drawings were made with autocad. After some planning and concept development the shape and form were determined

The Sportgeraet consists of an outer and inner frame, of which the inner one is adjustable in its position.

The mechanism on which the different settings can be archived with runners being constrained by the aluminum frame. The last degree of freedom is archived by the mushroom heads on the outer sides of the inner frame.
