About Me
Design and research, carried through to interactive prototypes and code.
Hello, I'm Maik
Depending on the task, I'm an industrial designer who codes, or a software developer with design intuition. I enjoy exploring new and old technologies to envision future possibilities through digital and hardware prototyping. My skill set is tuned to the beginning through near the end of the innovation process, translating knowledge gathered through systematic literature reviews into actionable results. Especially intriguing are non-screen interactions and to involve haptics to facilitate human-computer interactions.
Based on the challenge, I adapt design and research processes by choosing appropriate methodologies, or construct new approaches if needed. Throughout the design process I balance intuition and knowledge-driven design, facilitate the conversation between stakeholders, and use quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect insights, evaluate or validate concepts, and ideate by leveraging a variety of creativity techniques. I like taking the researcher or explorer role early in a project, setting direction before committing to a solution, and I'm comfortable leading when a team needs it.
That range runs from software to hardware. Web development is the more recent, professional side: full-stack applications in Laravel and PHP, with interfaces in TypeScript and Tailwind CSS. Before and alongside that, most of my programming was building proof of concepts in whatever language fit the problem during my studies and as an innovation engineer at Accenture. On the hardware side, I take interactive prototypes from circuit planning and parts sourcing through PCB layout, assembly, and bring-up, debugging along the way with bench tools.
